Kamal Farah, an Irish national, serves as the Director of DesertBoard® located in KIZAD, Abu Dhabi. He graduated with an MSc. in Civil Engineering from the University of Bristol, UK, in 2003. Before returning to the UAE, Kamal gained valuable on-site project engineering experience with Mowlem. Later, he honed his skills in civil and project engineering, working across various departments with ECC, focusing on contractual, tendering, and plant operations.
Transitioning to Abanos, one of the region's largest Fit Out and Joinery contractors, Kamal played a pivotal role in enhancing operations, particularly within the Joinery factory. In his current capacity, Kamal is entrusted with steering DesertBoard®'s growth and performance.
Realizing the company's mission of becoming the world's premier manufacturer of Palm Frond Oriented Strand Board (PSB®) and its derivatives, he is committed to fostering sustainable nation-building practices, community engagement, and ensuring the well-being of all stakeholders.
The DesertBoard® plant spans over 56,000 square meters and has the capacity to manufacture 2.2 million boards annually. Utilizing the abundant Date Palm Residual Biomass prevalent in the UAE, the plant mitigates environmental impact by repurposing material that would otherwise be burnt, sent to landfills, or composted, thereby reducing biodegradation time significantly.
